Unitarian Society
This project was a joint venture with Buchanan Architects. The years-long effort included masterplanning, programming, design, extensive cost estimating, and the construction of a new 400-person sanctuary for the Unitarians. The success of the design came from the close involvement of the congregation and the building committee’s dedication. They were integral members of the team.
The final design solution by Richard Turlington Architects reflected the Unitarian spirit of celebrating life through community. In addition to renovations of the existing lobby, we added 5,000 sq. ft. to the building. The sanctuary is situated so the sunlight subtly moves across the structure’s timber frame throughout the day, articulating a sense of peacefulness in the simple, open area. We carefully balanced the budget of $1.55M throughout the entire process.
