Unitarian Society
This project was a joint venture with Buchanan Architects and spanned several years. It included master planning, programming, design, extensive cost estimating, and construction of a new 400 person sanctuary for the Unitarians. The success of the design was generated by the close involvement of the congregation as a whole and the dedication of a cohesive building committee as integral members of the project team.
The final design solution by Richard Turlington Architects reflected the spirit of the Unitarians in celebrating life through community. The new sanctuary is situated so as to use the movement of the sun to subtlety articulate the peacefulness of the heavy timber-framed structure enclosing a simple, open space. The budget of $1.55 million was carefully balanced throughout the entire project, which consisted of 5,000 square feet of new space and existing lobby renovations.
