Johnson Simons Building

This project involved collaborative renovation of two conjoined buildings to provide 13 new residential lofts. Each residential space was unique in that we took advantage of the building’s character and original openness. This included exposing the original brickwork, wide plank flooring, structural steel, and overhead timber framing. We introduced skylights, balconies, terraces, fireplaces, and plinth kitchens.  New walls were added as white planes to contrast with the historic nature of the building. These lofts integrate the comforts of urban living into the fabric of two historic structures in the heart of downtown New Haven, Connecticut.
